Call for Art: Responding to Climate Change Through Art

Manitou Springs Art Council (MSAC) will curate a gallery exhibition in March of 2020 to be held at the Commonwheel Artists Co-op Gallery in Manitou Springs:

“Responding to Climate Change Through Art: Art to encourage people to rethink their relationship with the environment using beautiful or controversial imagery”

Climate change is one of the topics that makes people want to turn off and disengage. Campaigns for change have had marginal effect on our political leaders. It shouldn’t be that way. So what, if anything, can the arts do?

Sometimes, you need more than just the facts and data to really bring home the reality of the climate crisis. And what better way to do it than through the power of ART?

Environmental art has the power to change the way we view our world. Manitou Springs Art Council (MSAC) is inviting artists to use art in ways to encourage people to rethink their relationship with the Earth and the Environment. MSAC believes artists can create artwork that will ignite a passion to help prevent further environmental damage.

Art can be used to make an emotional connection when artists offer new visions and choices for a balanced Earth. This show offers a chance to use art to create a story that can inspire people to promote environmental awareness.

Artists may showcase the innate beauty in nature or use art to make a statement with disturbing or controversial imagery. This does not have to be just a dark and sad story. Artists are invited to share and envision concepts of positive actions and initiatives that can be created around the world, inspire the viewer as a consumer and citizen with the idea that they can make a difference and contribute to change through the choices they make.

Artists of every media are invited.

MSAC will jury pieces that are brought in to be sure the concept is clear in the artwork.

Artists may submit images by email that MSAC will consider to jury early and if accepted and we could use some images for publicity before the show opens.

This exhibition is sponsored by the Manitou Springs Art Council and 10% of sales will go to MSAC as a fundraiser to aid their efforts to continue support the arts in Manitou Springs.
